Mission Statement
For the Iroquois, lacrosse is more than a sport; it is a rite of passage. In the Iroquois culture, if a child asks a lacrosse player for his stick, the player must give his stick to that child. They believe that sacred knowledge is held within each stick, and so by giving away his stick, that player is sharing his knowledge. We agree.
It is our mission to pass on the knowledge within our sticks. We have watched lacrosse transform lives through friendships made, opportunities opened, and personal growth attained. Through lacrosse, the 1740 Foundation hopes to promote greater academic and social achievement for children, starting in the Durham area and moving beyond. It is our belief that through lacrosse, we can dare children to dream bigger.
OUR GOALS:
At the 1740 Foundation, our goal is to provide lacrosse equipment, instruction, and mentorship to children who would not otherwise have access to the sport. We hope to partner with local school districts and children's organizations to distribute equipment and bring children together with willing mentors and coaches.

Goals for 2011
- Raise sufficient funds to provide equipment to 2 elementary aged teams in the area.
- Host 2 clinics for those teams in order to teach game fundamentals, team play, and good sportsmanship.
- Support the Durham Nativity School as they introduce lacrosse to their student body by providing regular instruction and access to lacrosse resources.
